The tiniest of seeds produces a large tree
Dearest reader, I have no desire to deny your difficulties, at home, at work, or in the world. There is no intention to belittle your/our struggles. Yet dear soul, I encourage you to grasp hold of Christ's words about faith and the mustard seed, because it is crucial to Hope.
"And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.”
So the Lord said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you." Luke 17:5-6.
The mustard seed is the smallest seed, and yet in the right conditions grows to an enormous tree. This is what Christ is offering to us in relation to our faith. Faith is crucial to our continuing Life in Christ as “faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see” (Hebrews 11:1). How do we keep persevering despite our worldly trials when St Paul makes it clear “without faith it is impossible to please God…” (Hebrews 11:6)?
As I've said before, I live with the prayer, 'Lord I believe, help Thou my unbelief'! So day by day, month by month, year by year, I have offered this prayer, and my faith has grown. I know He is the Love I carry, and the guide to my work. He is indeed my Hope, because He is alive through His Spirit as I pray and seek His will and purposes. But when we have deep trauma or on-going loss of love in our lives, everyday seems as if we have gone back to the beginning each morning because the lies that stem from the pain and loss hold part of our hearts and minds in the dark. This spiritual malaise needs the on-going work of the Holy Spirit to drive it out in faith and hope.
Sometimes I know I am leaning on the Lord in darkness, as I feel unsettled. It is as if I have no hope. I own these feelings, and surrender to God the Father in trust and Hope in Christ. I pray for others who are suffering, (a good antidote to self-pity) and I ask that the Holy Spirit show me what needs to be confessed or owned, so healing can take pace. In other-words don't immediately run away from these feelings, but OWN them with Christ who descended into Hell. His Spirit will shed light within you and guide you into all Truth.
He has promised that all that is in the dark will come to the Light..with our Yes!! So what we are being called to do in Faith, He will provide and enable the task, prayer, act of love to be completed.!! And today He needed me to own afresh the very roots of lovelessness and pain, look in honesty at those who had not provided welcome, encouragement,Truth and Love even to the unborn child. I needed to see who I was subconsciously blaming in the past, and now, and therefore tying myself to....ie making them the hope of my healing and provision. Once things come out of denial, and can be forgiven at a deeper level, 'They knew not what they did'...then God is free to bring us resurrection in Christ.
We are blocked from moving forward in Hope and Love, if we are tied in the human past, even subconsciously, to bitterness, self-hatred, hatred of others, or blaming others for our inability to act, praise, love, serve, etc. Once we own these pains and subconscious hurts and blaming, we can turn back to God. Then, accepting all the trials as GIFT, we turn instead to God in love, to purify and sanctify our past, and even our present through the Holy Spirit of Life and Truth. Once we have turned another corner, through His mercy and grace, we can again take up our Cross and follow Him. Thank you Lord that indeed Hope is Alive, in You and through You, in our hearts.
Amen Lord, we believe, help Thou our unbelief, that the mustard seed of faith becomes fruitful for Your Kingdom, in purity of heart, Love and acts of mercy. Lord have mercy.
