"Your Will Be Done" is the result of twenty years of seeking the fullness of God. It is not a breezy self-help manual, but if read in the right spirit, it can become a gate of life. In reading Marina's experience of opening herself to God, we see how the Holy Spirit works in specific circumstances. In hers and in ours, if we will let Him.
The question remains: how do we let Him if we have “trauma minds”? A trauma mind is a scar, it results from the psyche patching itself up after an injury. Injuries can take umpteen forms, but spiritual and psychological injuries occur with or without physical ones when one human being forces another to become a receptacle for their sinfulness. The innocent person is filled, against their will, with the poison of someone else’s bitterness, sexual corruption, violence, arrogance, and so on, so a life meant to be lived in the glory of God becomes darkened.
Self-preservation takes the form of over-thinking or catastrophising and the sufferer turns inward because she (or he) can’t trust herself to reach out for fear of attracting more violence.
We hobble through life attempting to ‘read’ everyone, to pre-empt their actions, to humour them, and to escape from them. This is a way of life that is normal for untold numbers of people and so many never find the way out because so much of what purports to help them is shallow.
Marina’s books are neither—they are wise, warm, and perceptive--and for those who live with the sense of lovelessness, they are worth every hour put into reading them. Margaret
